Very soon we will be mailing out the blue and white exemption renewal cards to those who participate in our exemption program. These cards need to be checked properly as to how you would like to use your exemption for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, signed, dated and returned to our office by June 15th. Those of you who use the exemption on the government tax on your vehicle registrations will receive your exemption voucher for DMV only if you return the blue and white renewal card to our office, so be sure to turn it in. On the subject of DMV exemptions, we have exciting news! For the last year, Assessors in the state having been working with DMV and Advanced Data Systems, which handles much of our operating systems, on a new project to automate the exemption program with DMV. This will likely be the last year you will receive your pink and white exemption voucher to take or mail in to DMV. Going forward, the system will be automated. You will be able to use the DMV on-line program to use your exemption, the kiosk in their office, or with their personnel at DMV. If you mail in your registrations, information on how much of your exemption is left to use will be readily available through your Assessor's office or the DMV itself. No more vouchers to keep track of! When the program is activated, later in the early fall, all participants will receive a letter explaining the new changes and how it all works, so watch your mailboxes come early fall!

Our last batch of owner occupancy cards will go out later this month, so that we can be sure all the new owners of residences and rentals that comply with HUD rent guidelines receive the lowest possible tax bill in July, so return those as soon as you receive them. Additionally we will be mailing our last set of assessment notices for all those parcels which have undergone a change to assessed value after the closing of the tax roll last December. As always, if you have any questions about anything you receive in the mail from the Assessor's office, feel free to call and we will do our best to address your concerns.
