What's new at the Elko County Assessor's Office?: Closed Friday!

Just a reminder to let you know we are closed on Friday the 29th of October in observance of Nevada Day which is now celebrated on the last Friday of October. We will be open at the usual time on Monday, November 1st.

Owner Occupancy Verification Cards

We are mailing the Owner Occupancy Verification Cards so look for them in the mail if you have recently purchased a home. These cards help us to be sure we are applying the maximum allowable tax cap to each taxpayer's primary residence. If you receive a card that has a parcel number (APN) that begins with a TU, that will be for a mobile home. If you receive one for a parcel that is a rental property, be sure to return it so that we can send you a rent verification affidavit as it may be you will qualify for a higher tax cap if you rent amounts fall within HUD guidelines. IMPORTANT DATES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

July 1 or before: Business, Ranch, and Aircraft property declarations
are mailed
July 1 New fiscal year begins
July 31 All business and personal property declarations
should be submitted to the Assessor's office by this
date
3rd Monday in August First quarter installment of taxes are due
1st Monday in October Second quarter installment of taxes are due
December Property Value Assessment Notices mailed to all real
property owners. Tax Roll published in newspaper
1st Monday in January Third quarter installment of taxes are due
January 15th Deadline for filing petitions to appeal property values
to County Board of Equalization
February County Board of Equalization meets to hear taxpayer
appeals
February 1 to April 30th Application period for Senior Citizens Tax Assistance Rent Rebate Program
February & March State Board of Equalizaton meets
1st Monday in March Fourth quarter installment of taxes are due
May 15th Exemption affidavits are mailed, should be returned
by June 15th
June 1st Pending Agricultural Applications should be filed by
this date
June 15th Filing period for veterans, disabled veterans,
surviving spouses, blind exemptions to be applied to
real property taxes. Filing for exemptions on
personal property/vehicles may be done on a year
round basis
July Property tax bills are mailed. These bills are taxes on
the property in advance for the fiscal year
commencing on July 1
